Mexico's Slow Lane

                                                       Petit Hotel Hafa

Twenty-five miles north of the Puerto Vallarta airport, the fishing village and surfing town of Sayulita draws Americans looking for an alternative to the mega-resorts. I spent a few days there for The Seattle Times last February to find out what the attraction was all about. Relaxation comes easy at boutique inns like the Petit Hotel Hafa above. Everyone's friendly. There are tons of great restaurants, and nothing's more than a block or so from a good surfing and swimming beach. Safe and friendly, Sayulita seemed perfect for anyone seeking a low-stress beach vacation. But I wondered, can you come to a place like this and experience the flavor of real Mexico?
